Title I: Parent Involvement Policy
Tongass School of Arts and Sciences
Title I: Program Parent Information
Tongass School is a school-wide Title I school. This means Tongass School receives federal grant money to assist us in ensuring that all children meet challenging state academic content and student academic achievement standards.
Title I is a federal grant program designed to give financial assistance through state and local education agencies to qualifying public schools. The Ketchikan Gateway Borough School District provides Tongass School with these Title I funds. In the past, funds have been used to hire additional staff, purchase instructional materials and provide professional development to support students in reading, writing, and math so that they are able to grow in proficiency on reading and math state assessments.
Title I schools are required to develop a parent engagement policy that specifically outlines how the school will support parents with their students’ learning.
*A copy of these policies are available on this page to open/download.
A Title I school-wide program plan has been developed for Tongass School. Copies of the current plan are available from the office. Teachers, parents, and community members will meet during the year to revise this plan.
Families may view the school-wide plan at the following website:
Please watch for more information in our upcoming Newsnotes for notifications on dates and times that review meetings will be held.
