Matt Hamilton
I am a seventh-generation Alaskan, born and raised here in Ketchikan. As a child, I started making art to pass the time and help with my dyslexia, and discovered that I was really good at it. Artwork became a coping mechanism and a way to distract myself from the difficulties of life. Living in Alaska has given me a distinct appreciation for life, and for the people and places around me. I draw my cues from nature and society, while celebrating the beautiful woods of Alaska and seaside customs that come from living on the coast of southeast Alaska. I am an artist at heart, with my own business and clothing line featuring my Alaskan inspired art. I draw from pop culture for inspiration, mixing relevant TV shows and Netflix series, with the unique style and variety of life that comes from the culture of this unique town. I am excited and honored to guide our students in some of the different styles of art, explore different mediums, and help them become artists of their own.
“I’m inspired by music, TV, movies, and even graffiti. I mix it with the Alaskan Grit that makes us unique.” – Matt Hamilton, Artist
