Mr. Shultz, 3rd and 4th Grade:
It is my pleasure to be a third and fourth grade teacher here at Tongass School of Arts and Science. I have been an educator here for the last three years. My wife, Tory, and I have three beautiful children, two of which are students here at TSAS.
We have had a very exciting adventure as parents, and every day is a wonderful experience. Our family loves to hike, kayak, rock climb, and spend time in the outdoors. Our children have been an extension of what we love, and we include them in almost every activity that we can. We have always desired for our family life to never slow us down, just enrich our lives.
I have lived most of my life in Northern Alaska, and graduated from the small village of Unalakleet. My father was a teacher and school psychologist, and opened up a lot of wonderful experiences in my educational life. After High School graduation, I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where I became a third generation Marine. After four years, I pursued my educational career, receiving my Bachelors and Masters of Teaching from the University of Alaska Southeast. Right after I received my teaching degree, my wife and I applied for teaching positions back in Northern Alaska, where we spent four years teaching in Gambell and White Mountain. We have been back in Ketchikan the last 5 years and consider Ketchikan to be our home.
I am very excited for this upcoming school year and I look forward to the new discoveries and possibilities that will evolve over this year!
