Dear 1st & 2nd graders and families,
We are so excited to have you join us for an exciting year of learning and growing. Our classes will become communities of learners and experts, and we cannot wait to get started!
Several years ago we team-taught kindergartners here at TSAS, and now we are looking forward to being a team again, this time with our first and second grade students. Together we have 30 years of teaching experience to share!
Our theme this year will include “Kid Ketchikan,” which focuses on our community of Ketchikan. So, we will venture out with several Being There Experiences and bring in guest speakers from our community. Science content will include the solar system, matter, balance and motion, plants and worms.
Envision Math will be our new math curriculum, which features more technology to practice math skills. We will have small independent groups using the Daily 5 Model for reading and writing.
This year, as a way to better communicate with families, we will look into using the Remind system available for iphones and android phones. Meanwhile, please check out the 1st and 2nd grade classroom page on our website at www.tongassschool.org to view our supply list and the TSAS homework policy for 1st and 2nd graders. If you need to get in touch over the summer, email is great. Please see our email addresses below.
We encourage you to join the summer reading program at the Public Library (all the kids have a library number to check out books.) There are so many great books to share, activities to do, and prizes to win! Summer is a great time to go outdoors to enjoy nature and play together. Have a wonderful summer!
We look forward to learning with you soon!
Love, Mrs. S. and Ms. Carol
